A union for state employees is urging the state to reconsider plans to shut down some homes for the developmentally disabled.
Facility closures protested
Among the homes slated for closure is the Finger Lakes Developmentally Disabilities Services Office onWestfall Road in Brighton.
“We’re concerned that many of the consumers who live here right now are going to be sent to facilities far from their families,” said Randi DiAntonio, a council leader with the Public Employees Federation, which held a news conference Monday about planned shutdowns.
The state expects to close some facilities across the state by the end of 2013. Some, like theWestfall Roadoperation, also house developmentally disabled sex offenders.
